10/3/11 Update

We are excited to announce that SCO is getting a new name, a new mission statement, and a new vision. We will be implementing all of these changes over the next 30 days, and we will unveil a new website next month.  For more information, please visit www.shoutitcharlotte.blogspot.com

We are in the midst of unveiling Operation Feed the Homeless.  Beginning the first Thursday in May, we will begin feeding the homeless dinner every Thursday evening from 6 to 8pm, Uptown.  We will also be responsible for planning activities for them, in addition to providing them with other services such as first aid and proper oral hygiene techniques.  We will also continuously supply the homeless with goody bags, bandaids, toothbrushes, toothpaste, clothing, and toiletries. This volunteer opportunity will take place at the Homeless Resource Center. In addition, we will be accompanied by two armed guards and two social workers. This new operation will be the future of Steele Creek Outreach, and our main focal point in addition to our goody bags and Operation Mayday.

In April 2011, some of our members will take to the streets of Uptown Charlotte to film a documentary about the realities of homelessness. This is in response to some misconceived stereotypes surrounding our area homeless population.  Nichole will be joined by three photographers, one reporter, and one volunteer.  The estimated release of this documenary is: August 10th, 2011.

In February 2011, Nichole Jaworski accepted a Freelance writing position with The Charlotte Examiner.  Nichole will remain the CEO of Steele Creek Outreach.  Here is a letter from our CEO:

"Greetings Members and Supporters,

I wanted to share with you my decision to accept a Freelancing position with the Charlotte Examiner.  I have been compiling data and doing research for years about the effects of homelessness and plans out of homelessness.  My research points to the  realization that if we are ever to combat homelessness, we are going to have to begin with a radical approach. The time has come to treat the root of the problem instead of just the symptoms. I understand that this is a senstive issue and I personally wanted to ensure you that I am not speaking on behalf of Steele Creek Outreach.  My viewpoints and articles are from my perspective, and I will take full responsibility for any issues or repercussions that may arise from voicing my opinion. I would never jeopardize Steele Creek Outreach or our members, volunteers, partners, supporters, or interests. Make no mistake about it, some of my viewpoints are extremely unpopular.  This is because we as a society oppress the homeless since they do not actively bring something to the table. I am facing an uphill battle, but I am in it to win it! Through my interactions and experience with the homeless, I have developed a passion for helping them and ensuring that we integrate them back into society.  It is time for me to step outside of my comfort zone and speak up for those who cannot speak up for themselves.

If you are interested in following me in this new venture, I welcome you to visit Shout it Charlotte! @ www.shoutitcharlotte.blogspot.com.

All my best,

Nichole Jaworski
